Meet the artist
Katie Waggett
It was during the maternity of her first daughter that Katie returned to her original love of drawing, picking up a pencil or paintbrush during her baby’s nap time. It became a daily meditation and the tight time-frame in which to work forced her in to a looser style of drawing, with playful lines and a disregard for technicalities. After time spent juggling the day job with the home, and the addition of a third child, Katie’s illustrations developed to fuse with humour–depicting animals spouting amusing and deliciously naughty anecdotes based on her own experiences of family life.
Katie creates her work by drawing freehand from photographs of animals. The drawings are worked into intuitively using oil pastels to apply colours and patterns, and the colour palette is amplified in Photoshop through the addition of vibrant backgrounds. Artwork is then replicated as Giclee prints to create the final product. The result is joyful designs dedicated to making people laugh.
